What do you think about Wise and Pound ...

...combining youth football? With the possible consolidation approaching, this may not be a bad idea. We could combine and have 4 teams in each of the three age groups. This would give a ton of playing time to more kids and they can get to know each other before they go to high school with each other. I grew up playing in that format in Hopewell, VA in the 1980's. I believe it would be very beneficial to each town and, most importantly, the kids. We can play in Pound one week and the next in Wise so each school can get their fair share of the concessions. I hear Phil Robbins has approached Roger Austin about doing this in Appy and BSG. It's only a thought and I'd like to hear your thoughts, opinions, or comments.

If you want to get involved with a bunch of irrational crazy people then I say go for it. I think you guys already have a great thing going on in Wise. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Don't get me wrong I'm for consolidation and I get your point, but until you've worked with those people you just don't understand.

Thanks. We had some issues last season but they were fixed by this season. I think everyone could get along. Especially when everybody sees that there kids will be getting a TON of PT.

Well, I think Mike Robinson is their president and Mike is a stand up guy so I hope he did get some of their issues fixed. I'd be real particular who I'd let coach from there.

If it would happen, we would set up a committee and ensure that each town has people coaching to make the kids more comfortable during the transition. Mike is a good man. Chris Johnson took over after last season. Both try to do the right thing. I think we could make it work.

there are some programs now not going to mention which ones where kids do not get a lot of P.T. with a small amount of kids so is it in the best interest of combining programs and making it even harder?

...and that's where kids finding which sport is their best sport and concentrating on that sport will come into play. The bigger these schools get, the more specialized these kids can be come in other sports...or even if they can't make a team then they can concentrate harder on academics--of which there will be more opportunities to take varied classes with consolidation.

Plus--if these kids stick to a sport and become as great at it as they possibly can--the level of play will pick up overall, and better athletes will come out of the area and have more opportunities to play sports on the next level and get their college education at least partially if not fully paid for.

I don't really see where the problem is with any of that--we should have consolidated in this area already, as in yesterday.

I realize this is about P-Nut Football, but the sooner the better with a lot of things getting combined due to the positive side effects I just mentioned.

This is the way we are approaching this idea. I had 30 on my roster this season, an increase of 8 players from last season. Pound had around 20, about the same from last season. Combine those programs (all three age groups were like this). We would gain about 10 per age group giving us 60 per group. Split into four teams, having 15 per team. EVERYBODY plays alot. I'll be honest, I had a fit getting all 30 players enough playing time. It's tough, but we got it done.
With the combined format, little johnny will get 10-15 more snaps per GAME!!! Maybe more. That is how the kids will benefit. And the varsity coaches will benefit too. They will have 4 QB's instead of 1, 8 tackles, guards, DT's, DE's and so on instead of 2. But the big thing, the kids can have more fun and make more friends.

I just hope and pray the town of Big Stone doesn't get involved in that fiasco. I've never heard a good thing from that Wise Co. youth football, if Appy wants to combine with us draft those kids into the four teams we have now and let them play like that.

There have been combined teams before. Appalachia and BSG have had combined all-stars teams for little league several times. At least they did in softball when my sister played.
